At precisely 1:38 a.m., the town’s storm warning sirens began blaring out into the night with a screeching warning signal of an impending dangerous weather event. Trent had always been a light sleeper, so there was little chance of sleeping through such a blaring racket. He arose from bed and looked out from beyond his upstairs bedroom window at the strange-looking nighttime sky. It was rare to have the emergency storm sirens signaling so late in the fall season since most of the inclement weather patterns occurred during the far more atmospherically charged summertime.

Trent scanned the sky and immediately noticed the strange cir-cular cloud sitting directly over their small town. Unlike a fast-moving thunderstorm cloud full of thunder and lightning, this strange cloud appeared to be stationary, yet threatening all the same. Occasionally the cloud mass internally sparkled with electricity, without allowing any lightning strikes to escape. Trent had never witnessed anything like it as he lowered his eyes from the sky and looked down at the streets of his quiet little town. He noticed people coming out their homes and looking skyward as they walked toward the village square in the center of town. With little haste, he put on his clothes and shoes and then marched downstairs to join the rest of his neighbors in their discovery.

He like everyone else was looking skyward at the menac-ing-looking cloud when all at once, the entire town was engulfed in a colossal electrical laser-like beam of light. Nothing was making any sense as Trent and the other villagers began levitating off the ground from where they were standing. They were all powerless as they were forcibly sucked slowly into the cloud above.

The powerful retractor beam of light pulling everyone in his town upward to the cloud was certainly not of this world, Trent sur-mised. Unable to flee, he looked around at the frightened towns-people being pulled upward as well. It appeared that all the men, women, and children were so terrified, they weren’t even capable of screaming. It was as if they were hypnotized sheep silently being herded toward slaughter.

Trent like everyone else feared the unknown, but his mechani-cally oriented mind immediately tried to analyze what appeared to be something straight out of a science fiction movie thriller. In less than one minute, the entire town’s small population of people was lifted high up and into the darkness of the ominous cloud overhead. Once past the lower cloud layers, Trent instantly understood their plight as they were helplessly being pulled into an opening on a massive saucer-shaped spaceship.

Was it possible that their little town was being invaded by space aliens from a distant galaxy? Trent’s mind thought over the possibil-ities and contemplated why the American government and the mil-

itary were not engaged in this alien encounter that was threatening their town. Trent surmised that the massive dark cloud surround-ing the spacecraft must somehow be acting as a cloaking device. It seemed plausible that any government radar-monitoring system would have viewed the
